Aerodrome visual aids are heavily exam-tested because they are pure recall. Start with the colours, which are consistent:

• Runway markings are white; taxiway and apron markings are yellow.
• Runway threshold lights are green (shown toward the approach); runway-end lights are red.
• Identification beacons flash a two-letter Morse group: green at a civil aerodrome, red at a military one.
• Mandatory instruction signs are white on red.
