An engine producing power is also producing a great deal of heat and friction, and two systems exist to keep it alive: the oil system and the cooling system. How you handle the throttle, mixture and temperatures decides whether the engine lasts to its full overhaul life or fails early. Most engine handling is simply about heat: putting the right amount in and getting the rest out.
