Aerodrome information: ATIS, VOLMET, QNH/QFE

Before you taxi or arrive, you need the aerodrome's weather and state. Reading it to every aircraft individually would clog the frequency, so it is recorded. Two systems do this:

  • ATIS: Automatic Terminal Information Service, for one aerodrome;
  • VOLMET: a voice weather broadcast covering a group of aerodromes in a region.
