The NDB, ADF and VDF

The NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) is the simplest radio aid: a ground transmitter radiating energy equally in all directions, hence "non-directional". It transmits in the LF/MF band (roughly 200 to 1750 kHz, most often 200 to 400 kHz) and sends a two- or three-letter Morse ident. Check that ident before using it, and recheck periodically, because a failed signal gives no warning flag on the display.
